Highlight trick for lips

Hi, everyone!

We found this little ” trick” on Pinterest, and wanted to share it with you.

We use it all the time to achieve the perfect highlighted, dewy pout.

There are many ways and variations to this technique. A lot of people add a dab of highlighter to their cupids bow, others add two lipsticks in similar tones (the darker goes closer to the outside of your lips, and the lighter stays in the middle), and many just dab a bit of shiny gloss right in the middle of their lips.

They all work in various degrees to achieve the dewy look.

Have you tried this before? Will you? Let us know, and tag us on facebook or twitter so we can see your images too!

Hairstyles for Summer

Hi, everyone!

Summer is right around the corner, and we’ve already been experiencing pretty high temperatures around these parts. (84-90 yikes!)

Because of that we put together an array of hairstyles for both long and short hair for this time. most of them are up dos, if you, like us, prefers to have your hair off your face and neck when it’s really hot out.

1. Braids, everywhere!

Mod Style Lounge did the work for us, and pulled some great inspiration from Pinterest on braid styles, some of which definitely work for us short haired gals.

2. Four braid up-do

How fun is this style? We can’t wait to try that one out! ( We couldn’t find the original source, so if you know, please share!)

3. Braided Bun

If your child/ren has/have long hair, this is the style to go for summer! So easy to keep the hair out of their face and prevent it from knotting while they’re playing. I’d definitely check this tutorial.

4. Braided Updo

This style look so chic and elegant, you can definitely use it in all weddings to come. Or parties, and you can even do it on barbecues, because it truly has an effortless vibe to it. While a little more complex to achieve, the final result is simply stunning. Check it out here.

5. Julianne Hough’s Knotted do for the 13th Annual InStyle Soiree

How cute is that little knotted half-do? It’s perfect to add some interest to your normal half-do, specially if you like wearing it straight.

6. Twisted Up do

This tutorial is so easy to follow, and you can do it on any textured hair! Definitely check it out and let us know what you think!

Last, but not least, we have the twisted bang.

This is super easy, and works great if you want hair off of your face during a humid, hot day. As you can see on the top you just twist your bangs back and bobby pin it in place, and the bottom part you braid, for a fun texture mix.

I know I will be trying that one out!

What’s your go to style when the weather is amazing out?

Fixing the Back Part of your Hair

The next tutorial is by a face you are no stranger to. She did it again. Kate, at the Small Things Blog, approached a subject that coincidentally enough, one of our clients that came today deals with.

The Back Part.

The Back part is nothing more than the continuation of your normal hair parting (most of us have hair that naturally parts on the middle or one of the sides). The only thing is, it goes all the way to the back of your hair, so instead of a uniform back view, you see a part.

A lot of people find trouble styling their hair through their Back parts, so Kate put together a super simple tutorial on how to fix it, using only a flat iron and hair spray.

Golden Hour Spring Makeup Look

Hi everyone!

Hope you had a great weekend! After announcing our amazing giveaways we are back with a make-up look created by Ginger, one of our fabulous stylists.

We used some of the gorgeous products that just came out by Jane Iredale, with the collection Magic hour, a beautiful collections of golden, copper, brown shades as well as two beautiful lipstick colors!

Anyway, back to the look. Here’s a simple tutorial on how to achieve the final look!

Start by applying your favorite moisturizer and/or Spf.

Choose your perfect shade of foundation (we used the Dream Tint foundation in Medium Light).

Continue on by highlighting and contouring with your favorite highlighter, bronzer and blush.

we used Moonglow for all purposes. It’s a great versatile product, in which you can just swipe one of the colors (like we did for highlight and contour) or you can swirl the blush and use it all over like we did to create this beautiful glow.

Next, Ginger added eyeshadow (from the Trio Golden Girl).

We used the pale shade as a highlight under the brow and on the inside corner of the eye, the gold as an all over lid color and the brown as our crease color.

To further enhance the look, we took our beloved Mystikol to add more smokiness to the look. We tried Jane Iredale’s new gel liner in brown to accent the eyes.

Lastly, we added our lip color (Lip Fixation in Compulsion) and mascara (we highlight recommend using a lash conditioner to help care for your eyelashes and to hold the curl better!) and voila!

The makeup part of the tutorial is done! We just decided to do a blowout to finish off the look. Here’s a side by side of the before and after!

And instead of a list, we took a shot of all the products we used. Feel free to ask us if you want to know more about the line, a specific product or the application.

Festival Hairstyles

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

With the weather getting warmer, all Spring music festivals are getting ready to start – We have our own here in town, Friday Night Live, which is amazing and a lot of local business are sponsors, so if you’re in the area, check it out! They have a variety of bands playing and are also very family friendly!

But anyway, we know how those festivals are the perfect way to put your bohemian style to use after so many months of covering it up. We’ve been browsing and came across quite a few to share with you. Please check them out, we’ve linked the sources bellow each picture, so be sure to check it out!

1. Boho Roll and tuck

2. Tuck and roll w/ Headband

found on Pinterest, source unknown

3. Side Braid

found on Pinterest, via PopSugar (there is a step by step video!)

4. Small Braided Half-do

found on Pinterest, via Beauty Fashion Idea

5. Invest on a Headband

found on Pinterest, via Become Gorgeous

5. Side Detailed Braid

found on Pinterest, via All Women Stalk

Don’t be thrown off by the length of the hair on most pictures. Most of them can be replicated even with short hair. We know braids never go out of style, and it’s fun to work with them.

Let us know if you’re going to any festivals/ concerts, so have fun experimenting with adding a headband (we feel like tucking a bit of the hair around the headband is what gives you that boho look), creating some texture (if you have curly hair, it’s your time to shine and put the flat iron down).

Send us pictures if you try any of them!

Bridal Season and Tips

Hi everyone,

what a gorgeous day it is, outside! We are really busy in the salon with all the spring looks, but we are loving all the sunshine!

This time of the year is when the calls starting coming in. Bridal season is one of the most joyful times of the year for a stylist. You get to be part of someone’s story on their most special day. We absolutely love it, and we make sure to treat our brides with care, letting them know they can count 110% on us to deliver their perfect look.

Since we are getting so many calls,we felt it’d be appropriate to give out a few tips about your look of the day.

1. Be you – and be comfortable!

So many people think the bride has to have the tallest bouffant with the whole can of hairspray to be able to stand out on that day. It’s a myth! Lately, we’ve been seeing brides who are sticking true to their style, going for an easy up-do, or even half-do, with no fuss.

And trust us, there is absolutely NO way a bride won’t stand out on her wedding day. The hair is there to compliment you, not to be the look. It has to work with your gown, with your head piece (if you’re wearing any) and with your own style.

Also pay attention to the placement of your hair-do. If there are any bobby pins digging at your scalp that make you uncomfortable, let the stylist know as soon as she/he places it. It’s easier to change something you just did then wait until the end.

2. Pick your accessories in advance!

When browsing for your look in one of the million bridal magaiznes/sites be mindful of any head pieces you will want. You may fall in love with a style that won’t necessarily work with a veil, but there is always something the stylist can change to accommodate that.

We have a few accessories in the salon that we sometimes add to one of our trials. It just shows the bride a different twist on her look that she may not have though of. Sometimes it’s that littlest rhinestone flower that transforms your up-do.

Let the salon know if you’re planning on having any accessories/veil and bring them with you on your trial if you do have them already.

3. Enjoy the process!

Find a salon that will give you the peace of mind you need. The bride usually has so many things on her mind, the last thing she needs is to worry about whether she is happy with her look, or if the stylists will show up on the day of.

We can’t talk about other salons, but we try to make sure the bride will feel welcome, peaceful and most of all happy on her wedding day. We call, we email, we leave messages, we do all we can to ease the bride’s mind and let her know we are on board with the planning.

4. Invest on a hair/makeup trial!

We also truly encourage the bride to come in for a hair trial. And the trial shouldn’t be done over a month away from the wedding. We find that brides tend to doubt themselves and the style they chose if there’s a long gap between the trial and her wedding day.

A trial will insure you that the style you looked at works for you and on your hair, and will make you THAT much more excited for the day of! As I mentioned if you do have accessories on you we can make sure on the placement of them, we can know how to work around having a veil for the ceremony but not for the reception, and all other details that need to be looked at.

Most of our brides just come in for their hair trial, but we also can have a makeup trial. If you are even a little unsure of how it’s going to look like, book one. We’ve found it’s better to cross that worry off your list.

5. Think of wants/needs.

Most salons offer to travel to your venue if you need them to. And they all charge differently if they have to leave the salon. Ask for all the price differences, ask for schedules, and try to know in advance what will work best for you.

If you’re having a weekend wedding at your venue, chances are you’re looking to hire stylists that can come to you. Depending on your wedding day, prices can also vary.

We all know weddings are expensive, but brides and families have to be mindful of the stylists time as well. When leaving the salon, stylists not only give up having clients for a long time (getting to the venue, styling the bride/party, driving back) but they also have to make sure they take all tools with them. That’s why you can expect to be charged more if you need a stylist to come.

If you think you want a trial, ask about them. Many salons already have in the up-do quote the fee for the trial. Others charge a percentage of the final quote to do a trial (it can vary anywhere from 30% -50%).

And finally, find a stylist you really like. Having an open line of communication will guarantee that your expectations on how you want your hair to look like will be met, and also that your stylist will be honest about whether the look will work for your type of hair and your length as well.

Well, there you have it! These are our top tips for brides. Feel free to comment, or call us at the salon to know about our bride specials and quotes!
