Brush Strokes Salon & Spa Noa is working with Beauty Scope to help children this August.

Our Back-to-School drive will benefit the Alice C. Tyler Village of Childhelp® Farm in Lignum, VA. As the children go back to school, they need lots of supplies. We are now accepting donations to help the children for 2017.

This month is the unofficial start of summer & we couldn’t be more excited; warmer weather, barbecues, and lying by the pool, & fabulous new hair. New Stylist

We would like to welcome a new stylist to the Brush Strokes Team.  Miss Bruna Miranda is a junior stylist who has a real passion for hair. She is currently training under our fearless leader, Mary Taylor, but she is available for blow-dry and hair cut appointments. Bruna will be here Tuesdays through Saturdays. Having a Moment-Lashes




According to the Washington Post, it is “The Age of Lavish Lashes” and we couldn’t agree more! From Adele to the First Lady, and everyone in between, lashes are truly having a moment.

Did you know that both Brush Strokes Salon and Spa Noa offer lash services and products?

As an add-on to our already fabulous Jane Iredale makeup applications, you can have false lashes applied for only $25. Both locations use Ardell brand lashes and glue, but clients are more than welcome to bring their preferred brand and/or style.  We love that the Ardell brand has been around for over 45 years and is consistently considered the “queen of lashes”.



If false lashes are not for you then we offer other ways to grow the fringe around your eyes. Spa Noa sells growth serum, Latisse, which is offered by our doctor on staff, Dr. Bruce Freedman. This medical grade cosmetic treatment allows natural growth for people with little or no lashes with amazing results.

Another growth serum called Grande Lash-MD by Grande Cosmetics is offered at both Spa Noa and Brush Strokes. This product comes in either a 3 month or 6 month supply, and is less expensive than our Latisse option. It is applied just like liquid eyeliner on the upper lash line, and may also be applied to the lower lash line if desired. Most clients see results in 4-8 weeks, and this is a great product for anyone looking to up their lash game.

Whether you prefer the glamorous offerings of faux lashes, or if you are trying to grow out your own beautiful set, your options are endless.  Not just your options in style, but in price as well.  Having a full set of lashes helps anyone achieve that “no makeup, makeup look”, and can be achieved by wearing great quality mascara, false lashes, or even just your own flirty set.

New Policies

Brush Strokes is updating its 24 hour cancellation policy.

If a client neither calls or shows up on the day of their scheduled appointment we will ask them to prepay for their next one. Our stylists time is very valuable & we have other clients who would love to come in at those times. If clients know that they are unable to make their scheduled appointment, we ask that they call or email the salon.

Donna’s Schedule

Donna will be gone most of January (as stated above) & her schedule will change for the month of February as well. Starting the week of 1/30/17, Donna will be working Thursday-Saturday only. She will go back to her normal schedule of Tuesdays & Thursdays-Saturdays starting in March. Make sure to schedule your appointments now before they’re filled up!

New Products: We are happy to introduce to you Eufora’s newest product, Fresh Effect! It’s everything a dry shampoo should be. So sleep in…we’ve got you covered! Also from Eufora is a new collection of travel sized items and kits. The summer is the time to travel so make sure you take your favorite Eufora and Brush Strokes items with you!


Policy Update: Brush Strokes will now require clients to provided credit card information for any major services taking 3+ hours (e.g. Keratin Treatments, Relaxers, etc.). We would also like to remind clients that we have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel an appointment please call us as soon as possible. The “I Do’s” & “I Don’ts” of Wedding Makeup

Getting ready for a wedding can be daunting, to say the least.  Thankfully the beautiful people at Bridal Guide have taken some of the stress out of planning.

In their most current issue (July/August 2016) there is a fantastic section called “ask david” , by none other than wedding guru David Tutera, that talks about the do’s and don’ts of makeup prep.  We picked our top four do’s and top four don’ts to share with you, but if you’d like to see the full list pick up the most recent issue of Bridal Guide and check out page 58.

I Do’s

  • Book a Consultation:

WEtv’s star says, “There are usually fees for your consultation, so plan for yours to happen when you have something special going on, or when you can test it out with your dress. Get your money’s worth!”  We at Brush Strokes recommend scheduling your trial run at least two to three weeks before your big day. On the day of the trial run, we charge 50% of the original service amount and on the day of the wedding, we charge the remaining 50% balance.

  • Start Early & Create a Timeline:

The suggestion by Mr. Tutera, “Allow 45 minutes to an hour for your makeup application” and “figure out prep time required for each member of the wedding party…” We suggest working with our makeup stylists when figuring out your timelines. When in our salon we usually set aside at least two hours for makeup application.

  • Think Classic & Bright:

According to David, “Sure, Kim Kardashian’s uber-smoky cat eye and full-on faux lashes looks fab, but in 10 years? Maybe not so much”. We love using Jane Iredale makeup for several reasons, but one of the biggest is because it is great for your skin and it is perfect for creating soft, timeless, and effortless looks.

  • Mascara is Key:

Our guru states “use waterproof mascara. This is bridal-makeup rule number one!”  All of our Jane Iredale mascaras are “water resistant” and are exactly what the wedding planner ordered for your big day!


I Don’ts

  • Don’t Wait:

The host of David Tutera’s CELEBrations discloses, “Book your hair and makeup artists early-about six months in advance.” We couldn’t agree more with this key piece of wedding wisdom! Thankfully we can provide both hair and makeup services for your big day. We also ask that you fill out one of our Bridal Contracts to secure your date, time, and services.

  • Keep it Simple:

David expresses that, “less is more, especially when it comes to your wedding makeup. You still need to look like you.”  This goes back to our “Do” about thinking classic. Let our stylists enhance the already beautiful you on the day of.

  • No “Blah” Shades:

Just like with the dark lipstick, David warns, “those beige and brown-toned lip-colors you wear every day can make you look washed out in photos.” We suggest using a great Jane Iredale product called LipDrink, especially in its new color “flirt”. Not only is it an amazing color, but it also hydrates and keeps your lips looking fresh from first kiss to the farewell send off!

  • Be Prepared:

The final piece of wisdom Mr. Tutera imparts is, “have a bridal-beauty emergency kit for your maid of honor to keep close by in case anything goes awry.” We can help you set up this kit (at least as far as hair and makeup is concerned). We sell all of the Jane Iredale products we use, as well as some great hairsprays and style aids by Eufora to help keep everything in place!

Ask and you Shall Receive

I asked our amazing stylists, if you could tell your clients top five things that you would love for them to know, what would you choose? Without holding back, they delivered their lists to me and I complied a list of the ten commonalities between the list.

Please be conscious of the time.
A stylist allocates a specific amount of time for each service that he/she performs. It is important for them to follow this schedule so that they run on time for not only your appointment but for all the other appointments that they have scheduled that day. When your five, ten or even fifteen minutes late, this can really throw their carefully timed schedule off. Please remember, DO NOT PULL A NO-SHOW! It is rude and inconsiderate of your stylist. We completely understand that life happens and sometimes its inevitable but please call to let them know before your scheduled appointment.

You’re probably not going to be able to get your favorite celebrities style.
We love when you have pictures to reference what you like but keep in mind, we are not the same stylists as your favorite celebrity. Another thing to remember, your face shape, hair texture and allover look is going to be different than that celebrity. There are many different aspects to consider when getting a new hairstyle and some of those don’t always fit into your look. Be open minded about some adaptions.

Be specific with what you are wanting.
We do not get offended by you being “nit-picky”, after all, it is your hair. We want you to be happy with your hair and with us! Even when it comes down to saying that you want two inches taken off, show us exactly what two inches means to you. We want there to be no miscommunications when it comes to giving you the look and style that you desire.

Be honest about your hair.
Your the only one that knows the history of your hair! If your not honest about what you’ve had done to your hair, there is a real possibility to major damage, which we would love to avoid. We would love to know if you’ve had any other color applied to your hair before we color it or even if you’ve had any straightening treatments done on your hair. All this information matter!

Put your cell phone down.
The time that you’ve reserved in the salon is supposed to be your relaxing time away from everything else in your life. On top of that very important part to visiting the salon, it can be very difficult to do your hair if your constantly reaching for your phone or when you have your phone super glued to your ear. We need you to sit still and have access to all areas of your head to properly do our job.

We love getting to know our clients – to a point.
It makes the day go by so much faster when you’re having a good time and that includes great conversations. However, sometimes clients can be very open about their lives… We enjoy hearing about your families and all those good things but sometimes clients can go a little to in depth when describing things. Remember, you’re usually not the only person in the salon so keep conversations PG, this includes your language. We don’t want to disrupt anyone’s time in the salon.

The salon is not a daycare.
Just like we love getting to know you, we love getting to know your family; preferably during a service that they are receiving. There are lots of chemicals, hot tools and harmful things in the salon. We can not watch everything going on in the salon and also focus our attention on you, the client. Kids tend to get into things and play with things that aren’t meant to be toys when they get bored. This can result in broken equipment and possible injuries. We want to avoid that with all costs! Leave the kids at home! Visiting the salon should be your getaway, we want you and our other guests to be able to relax while visiting us.

We recommend our products because we believe in them.
First and foremost, you should not want to pay hundreds of dollars to get this amazing color and then go home and wash your hair with a $4 bottle of shampoo. A lot of grocery store brands of hair products have awful ingredients in them that will make your hair dry, damaged and strip your color faster than you would like. We pride ourselves in knowing what your hair needs and we take the time to learn our products so that we can recommend the correct products for you. If you don’t like anything that we’ve recommended, we have no problem exchanging that product for another one.

Your hair is a walking billboard of my work.
Our recommendations for how often you should be getting your color touched up are important. If you go longer than the recommend time, you color is going to look faded or dull and your going to loose the shape in your haircut but also we want your hair to look amazing at all times because that’s our name and our business. Your hair style is a direct reflection of you stylist and if you don’t keep up with your hair, it can reflect badly on us and we rely heavily on referrals to build our business.

Stylists rely heavily on referrals from their clients to grow and build their businesses. If you love what we’ve created for you, tell everyone! We love meeting new people especially when they tell us that one of our clients referred them to us. We love you and it makes us feel appreciated when you send family, coworkers or friends our way!
